The 20th Annual Exhibition of the Society for Contemporary American Art featured 49 works of painting or sculpture by American artists like Paul Banks, Leonard Baskin, John Rood, Cosmo Campoli, Ruth Maria Kilby, Jose Guerrero, Byron Burford, Julius Hatofsky, Alfred Leslie, and Kenzon Okada. The artworks included in this exhibition were selected by members of the Society, which in turn, vote to select the which will be the gift of the Society to The Art Institute of Chicago. It is the purpose of the Society to provide an interesting program throughout the year, but primarily, to provide The Art Institute, through the means of our exhibition, with one work of painting or sculpture by an American artist. This year, Black and Yellows by Jos? Guerrero and Equilibrium by Charles Green Shaw were selected as the gift of the Society to The Art Institute of Chicago.
