The Art Institute of Chicago
The 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society for Contemporary American Art featured 68 works of painting or sculpture by American artists like Josef Albers, Siah Armanjani, Alexander Calder, Mary Callery, George Cohen, Joseph Cornell, Willem De Kooning, Jim Dine, Sam Francis, Fritz Glaner, Leon Golub, Arshile Gorky, M. Glaser and Philip Guston. The artworks included in this exhibition were selected by members of the Society, which in turn, vote to select the which will be the gift of the Society to The Art Institute of Chicago. It is the purpose of the Society to provide an interesting program throughout the year, but primarily, to provide The Art Institute, through the means of our exhibition, with one work of painting or sculpture by an American artist.
