Donald Judd, a premier practitioner of minimal sculpture, reduced his objects to their most rudimentary forms and constructed them from simple, readily available industrial materials—in this case, stainless steel and acrylic.
The Acquisition
Placed on the floor to enhance its directness, this spare, elegant work purposefully resists the forms of traditional sculpture, especially those that refer to the human body. Judd favored box forms and fabricated many of them in factories in order to achieve their perfect, machine-made finish.
